It Might Be a Brownfield If...
How do you identify a brownfield? Look for signs of potential contamination such as:
bullet Old, dilapidated buildings
bullet Broken windows and glass
bullet Garbage or rubble
bullet Old barrels or storage tanks
bullet Old electrical equipment
bullet Sickly or no vegetation
bullet Unusual odors
bullet Oddly-colored soil and/or water
When performing a visual assessment of a site, be sure not to trespass on private property. Take an inventory from a nearby road or public area.

Keep in mind that the characteristics listed above indicate the potential for contamination, but do not automatically mean the site is a brownfield.
