Get Active for Spring, Become a Scenic Hudson Tour Guide

(ESOPUS) - Scenic Hudson seeks volunteers who will serve as educational tour guides at two of its popular Mid-Hudson parks. A training session for interested volunteers will be held Saturday, March 27, 2004, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Esopus Meadows Environmental Center in the Town of Esopus, Ulster County. Training will consist of a thorough description of each park, an overview of the Hudson River Valley and its ecological and historical significance, and ways to effectively convey this information as a tour guide. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate. Parents or guardians must accompany those under the age of 18. Refreshments will be provided.

Once trained, volunteers will lead tours at these Scenic Hudson parks: PoetsÂ’ Walk Romantic Landscape Park in Red Hook, Dutchess County and Black Creek Forest Preserve in Esopus, Ulster County.

For more information and to reserve your spot, please contact Andy Bicking at (845) 473 4440, ext. 232, or via e-mail at abicking@scenichudson.org.

Scenic Hudson works to protect and restore the Hudson River and its majestic landscape as an irreplaceable national treasure and a vital resource for residents and visitors. A crusader for the valley since 1963, we are credited with saving fabled Storm King Mountain from a destructive industrial project and launching the modern grass-roots environmental movement. Today with more than 10,000 ardent supporters, we are the largest environmental group focused on the Hudson River Valley. Our team of experts combines land acquisition, support for agriculture, citizen-based advocacy and sophisticated planning tools to create environmentally healthy communities, champion smart economic growth, open up riverfronts to the public and preserve the valley's inspiring beauty and natural resources. www.scenichudson.org
