Scenic Hudson's Work on Westchester Waterfront
Boosted by Community Foundation Grant
(WESTCHESTER COUNTY) - The Westchester Community Foundation has awarded Scenic Hudson a $30,000 grant to help foster model waterfront development on the Westchester waterfront. Development proposals in this historically and culturally significant area of the Hudson Valley present a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pursue smart economic growth and address key issues such as traffic congestion.
The funding will enable Scenic Hudson's expert team of smart growth planners and community outreach specialists to work with community leaders and residents on issues including waterfront access and enhanced and integrated rail, bus and water transit to reduce auto traffic. Another goal will be to create trails that would add significantly to the Hudson River Valley Greenway's work to create a continuous riverfront walkway from New York City to the Troy Dam, north of Albany.
"This grant provides the means for Scenic Hudson to help communities ease impacts from new development and improve quality of life for residents," said Ned Sullivan, president of Scenic Hudson. "We have a 40-year track record of protecting, preserving and restoring the Hudson River and its riverfront, and we thank the Westchester Community Foundation for supporting our efforts in the county."
