Public Forum on Development that Could Alter Kingston's Waterfront for
Generations
Community discussion to be held on potential impacts of proposals
(KINGSTON) - The public is invited to participate in a forum about two major development proposals for Kingston's last remaining waterfront land that could result in a rapid 25-percent increase in the city's population. Proposed and alternative plans will be presented for public discussion on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at White Eagle Hall, 487 Delaware Ave. in Kingston.
Overview of large-scale projects The Landing is proposed by AVR Corp. of Yonkers for a 524-acre parcel known as the Tilcon property. The proposal calls for nearly 2,200 housing units and 328,000 square feet of commercial development.
Sailor's Cove is proposed by developer Enrique Mazada for a 78-acre former brickyard site. Sailor's Cove as currently outlined would bring more than 360 residential units and 60,000 square feet of commercial development to Kingston's waterfront.
Expert presenters Suzanne Cahill, City of Kingston planner -- as the head of the city's planning office she oversees all development proposals requiring planning board approval.
Lee Molyneaux, City of Kingston Planning Board chair -- an experienced member of the planning board, he leads board review of all development proposals within the city.
Ray Curran, senior planner for the environmental and community planning group Scenic Hudson -- he assists communities in evaluating proposals and exploring alternatives.
Ann Loeding, leading member of the local group Friends of the Rondout -- she is a longtime Kingston resident committed to appropriate development of the city's waterfront.
