High School Students from Across Northeast
Volunteer with Scenic Hudson
(HUDSON VALLEY) - WHAT: This summer Scenic Hudson will be one of 60 organizations across the nation selected to host a team of Landmark Volunteers. The group of 13 high school students, who hail from across the Northeast, will spend two weeks improving trails on historic Mount Beacon, Scenic Hudson's newest park and a favored destination for Hudson Valley residents and visitors. The volunteers will receive hands-on lessons in trail construction and maintenance as well as environmental stewardship. The program also will expose them to extensive lessons on the natural and cultural history of the famed Hudson River Valley.
A great character-building experience, Landmark Volunteers is a nonprofit organization that gives high school students the chance to make a real difference in the world around them. In addition to the Scenic Hudson program, other student teams will travel to five other host sites in the Hudson Valley - among them Wilderstein and the Mohonk Preserve - which is a testament to the significance and grandeur of the region.
WHO: Representatives from Scenic Hudson, Landmark Volunteers and the student volunteers themselves will be available for photos and interviews.
WHEN/ WHERE: Wednesday, Aug. 4, through Friday, Aug. 12 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Scenic Hudson's Gateway to Mount Beacon Park Directions: Parking area and trailhead are located at the intersection of Route 9D and Howland Avenue in the City of Beacon.
