Scenic Hudson's West Point Foundry Part of History Celebration

(COLD SPRING) - On Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2, Scenic Hudson, in conjunction with Putnam County History Days, will open the doors to history at its West Point Foundry Preserve. Tours of the foundry will be given by Elizabeth Norris, one of the expert industrial archaeologists working on Scenic Hudson's West Point Foundry Preserve with Michigan Technological University. Saturday's tour of the foundry ruins will begin at 10 a.m. and will showcase the unique interplay of politics, geology and geography responsible for the foundry's prominent role during the Civil War. Sunday's program will begin at 2 p.m and will include activities for kids in addition to the tour. To learn more about these events and to register, contact Joe Kiernan at 845 473 4440, ext.265, or jkiernan@scenichudson.org.

Scenic Hudson works to protect and restore the Hudson River and its majestic landscape as an irreplaceable national treasure and a vital resource for residents and visitors. A crusader for the valley since 1963, we are credited with saving fabled Storm King Mountain from a destructive industrial project and launching the modern grass-roots environmental movement. Today with more than 10,000 ardent supporters, we are the largest environmental group focused on the Hudson River Valley. Our team of experts combines land acquisition, support for agriculture, citizen-based advocacy and sophisticated planning tools to create environmentally healthy communities, champion smart economic growth, open up riverfronts to the public and preserve the valley's inspiring beauty and natural resources. www.scenichudson.org
