Scenic Hudson Makes Improvements to its Popular Poets' Walk Park

(RED HOOK) - Scenic Hudson, the Poughkeepsie-based environmental group, is arranging for the removal of a number of diseased and dying trees that border and overhang River Road at its Poets' Walk Romantic Landscape Park in Red Hook, Dutchess County. If left standing these trees may pose a threat to the safety and well-being of motorists and pedestrians.

On Earth Plant Care Specialists of Putnam Valley has been contracted to perform the tree removals. In order for the arborists to safely and efficiently complete this work with minimal disruption to the public, it may be necessary to partially close River Road around the site during regular work hours from Monday, Jan. 30, through Friday, Feb. 3. During that period Route 199 can be easily accessed from Route 9G.

Understanding the important role that these trees have played in making River Road the bucolic byway that it is, Scenic Hudson will replant the area with maples, oaks, birches and tulip trees this coming spring. If you have any questions about the project, please call David Diaz at 845 473 4440, ext. 223.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we make these important park improvements.

Scenic Hudson works to protect and restore the Hudson River and its majestic landscape as an irreplaceable national treasure and a vital resource for residents and visitors. A crusader for the valley since 1963, we are credited with saving fabled Storm King Mountain from a destructive industrial project and launching the modern grass-roots environmental movement. Today with more than 10,000 ardent supporters, we are the largest environmental group focused on the Hudson River Valley. Our team of experts combines land acquisition, support for agriculture, citizen-based advocacy and sophisticated planning tools to create environmentally healthy communities, champion smart economic growth, open up riverfronts to the public and preserve the valley's inspiring beauty and natural resources. www.scenichudson.org
