Another milestone reached on the path to a cleaner Long Dock Beacon

Public comment sought on Scenic Hudson/Foss Group Beacon cleanup study for Long Dock Beacon

( BEACON, New York) - The state Department of Environmental Conservation is now soliciting public comments on the Scenic Hudson/Foss Group Beacon plan for cleaning up the contaminated 25-acre site that will be the future home of Long Dock Beacon -- our groundbreaking project on the Hudson River. It is the next step in our 14-year effort to create a safe and healthy waterfront in Beacon for all to enjoy.

The Remedial Investigation Plan details the plans for a thorough study of contaminants at the former industrial site. The plan is standard procedure for contaminated sites undergoing development under the state's Brownfield Cleanup Program.

Scenic Hudson has been working with city officials, residents and developer Foss Group Beacon to create the world-class park and conference center. The 17-acre park will feature a boardwalk, fishing pier and trails through open meadows. The park will surround an eight-acre complex that includes a hotel, conference center, spa, two restaurants and a harbor for non-motorized boats.

The project will employ the latest conservation techniques dedicated to saving energy, renewing water and restoring habitat. The hotel will be the first in the country to earn the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold rating.

Hailed by Bloomberg.com as a project "that does everything right," Long Dock Beacon demonstrates Scenic Hudson's commitment to restoring riverfront ecology while promoting economically vibrant waterfronts. It will join Dia:Beacon -- the museum of contemporary art that Scenic Hudson played a key role in luring to the city -- as a prime tourist destination.

Comments on the cleanup plan will be accepted through July 7. The public will be informed when the plan is approved and notified of a timeline for the cleanup.
