Volunteers Needed for Clean-up at Mount Beacon

Participants to enjoy hike, panoramic views and learning mountain's impressive history

(BEACON, New York) - Scenic Hudson is looking for community volunteers to help clean up the summit of legendary Mount Beacon. The outing will begin with a guided hike led by Scenic Hudson staff, who will explain about the Mountain's ecology and fascinating history that includes being the valley's top day-trip destination for nearly a century, a 1920s silent movie filming location, and home to signal fires that guided Gen. George Washington's troops during the Revolutionary War.

The volunteer work day is Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Group will meet in the trailhead parking area, at the intersection of Rte. 9D and Howland Avenue in the City of Beacon. Volunteers should be prepared for the steep one-mile hike to the summit. Warm clothing, sturdy hiking shoes, water and snacks are recommended. The clean-up will take about one hour.

For information please call Jennine Shy at 845 473 4440, ext. 210.
