10th Anniversary Sweep to Fly Solo

Scenic Hudson's Great River Sweep is turning 10 years old this April. During our nine cleanups of the Hudson's shores, together we've done magnificent work, picking up more than 400 tons of trash. Last year alone, nearly 7,000 volunteers in 109 communities from Manhattan to the Adirondacks joined in our cleanup crusade.

To be such an overwhelming success, the Great River Sweep has relied on people like you to get the job done. We simply supplied the inspiration and organization to get the ball rolling each year. Since it has always been our intention to nurture a community of Sweepers who one day would care for the river independently of Scenic Hudson, we now feel the time has come for the Sweep to fly on its own as an all-volunteer event -- and for us to refocus our energy on emerging and escalating needs.

Resources will still available to coordinators
While Scenic Hudson will no longer be sponsoring any cleanups, we have created a kit to make it easier for you and others to continue the great work we started together. Our DIY Cleanup Guide (sponsored by M & T Bank) has proven tips for securing donations as well as templates to assist with volunteer recruitment and media outreach. We sincerely hope that you can make use of this resource to carry your cleanups forward.

We can all be proud of our accomplishments during the first nine Great River Sweeps. And one thing's for sure: with our volunteers as a leaders, we'll be even prouder of the accomplishments to come.
